The trend of looking deeper into outer space is a game, a whim, for engineers to see how far their telescopes can reach. Observing the stars and supernovas in high definition does not create any more meaning than does gazing upon a mountain range. I don’t diminish the awe of looking millions of lightyears away into the heavens, but we tend to underestimate the temporal vastness of what is right in front of us. Where I live, in the middle of a desert, there are mountains and cliffs that once sat hundreds of miles beneath the surface of the sea. I stare into my own timely insignificance every time I look outside.
when i look at mountains i see the ocean floor millions of years gone the coral and the fish when i look at mountains i see the driest desert resilient life unrelenting, virtuosic life when i look at mountains i see loss and gain i think of when they lost the water and what a devastation when i look at mountains i see new life encountered what it means to transform the unpredictability when i look at mountains i see myself in the midst of loss in the midst of gain
When I look at mountains
